Privacy policy
Last updated: June 16, 2026
NailsGuard is built to know nothing about you. Everything the app does happens on your Mac. This page explains, in plain language, exactly what the app handles and where it goes, which is nowhere.
No accounts, no sign-in
You never create an account. There is no login, no email, no profile. The app does not ask for, collect, or store your name, email address, or any identity at all.
No network access
NailsGuard does not connect to the internet. It has no servers and makes no network requests. Because of that, no frames, images, video, telemetry, or usage data ever leave your Mac. Nothing is uploaded, and nothing is stored in any cloud.
How the camera is used
NailsGuard uses your webcam to watch for nail biting. Each frame is analysed entirely on your device using Apple's on-device Vision framework, which looks for your face and hands to estimate when your fingers approach your mouth. macOS asks for camera permission before the app can see anything, and you can revoke it anytime in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera.
Webcam frames are processed in memory and immediately discarded. The app does not save, record, or transmit images or video of you. Detection runs only when you have watching turned on (and, if you set a schedule, only during the hours and days you choose).
What is stored on your device
The only thing NailsGuard keeps is local event statistics: a count and a timestamp each time a nudge fires, so the app can show you your dashboard, timeline, hourly heatmap, and streaks. This data lives only in the app's container on your Mac. It contains no images and no personal identifiers, just numbers and dates.
You can clear these statistics at any time from within the app. Removing them is immediate and permanent. Uninstalling NailsGuard removes them too.
No tracking, no analytics, no third parties
NailsGuard contains no analytics, no advertising, no crash reporting, no tracking technologies, and no third-party SDKs that collect data. There is no profiling and no data sharing, because there is no data leaving your Mac to share.
Notifications
When the app catches you, it shows a standard macOS notification to interrupt the habit. macOS asks for notification permission first, and you can change it anytime in System Settings → Notifications → NailsGuard. Notifications are handled locally by macOS and are not sent over a network.
Purchases
NailsGuard is a one-time purchase on the Mac App Store. Payment is handled entirely by Apple. The app itself never sees or stores your payment details, and we receive no personal information from your purchase beyond what Apple provides to all developers in aggregate sales reports.
Children
NailsGuard does not collect any data from anyone, including children. The app is a general-purpose macOS utility and is not directed at children.
Changes
If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new date. The current commitment is simple: your camera is used only on-device, and nothing leaves your Mac.
